DIY Olive Oil Protein Treatment

Olive oil contains essential fatty acids and will help moisturize your hair.  With this easy trick, you’ll never have to buy hot oil treatments again, or go to the salon (unless you live in Carson City, in which case you should come give me your moneys).  It improves hair texture and rebuilds damaged hair.  It is also said to make your hair grow twice as fast.  I’m not sure if that last part is true, but it makes sense, since they say to apply castor oil to your eyebrows or eyelashes, which lubricates the hair follicle and makes them grow faster.  I do plan on trying this treatment once a week (which is the recommended amount) and I will inform everyone on the progress of my hair growth.

Step 1:

Mix 1/2 cup of olive oil (preferably extra virgin, since it is the highest quality of olive oil) and 1/4 cup of honey in a bowl.  (Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts and holds moisture)

Step 2:

Heat concoction in the microwave for 15 seconds.

Step 3:

Add an egg yolk to the mixture.  Egg yolk has high vitamin A, and essential fatty acids which can improve the overall condition of your scalp, increase blood flow to the scalp (encouraging hair to grow), moisturize hair, and increase the production of natural oils to recondition your hair.  Be careful that the mixture is not too hot when adding the egg, otherwise it will cook it.

Step 4:

Wisk all of the ingredients together so it is smooth and consistent.

Step 5:

Apply evenly to damp hair and work through the ends.

Step 6:

Wrap with plastic cling wrap and let sit for 30 minutes.

Step 7:

Wash out your hair and shampoo it really good.  My hair was pretty greasy the next morning, but I do the “no poo” method, so that could be why.  At any rate, I re-cleansed it again the next morning and it was fine.

Step 8:

Rock your new healthy hair!  I would advise letting it air-dry.  You just made a huge effort to make your hair healthy, give it a break.

Just a Friendly Reminder:

Do yourself a favor and wrap your head in a towel.  Even with the cling wrap, this could get really messy.

  1. This worked great! I also use the no poo method… I had to cheat and use shampoo afterwards today because my hair was so oily! Then I used ACV and let it set. My hair was very unmanageable when wet. Once it dried it was silky and shiny. The parts that are bleached are still a little dry, but over all I’m pleased!
